Connecting ChatGPT

A little more work than Claude, and the reason is not at our end: custom MCPs still sit behind a switch at OpenAI called Developer Mode.

What you are about to paste looks like this. Your own address is on Your MCP, where you found this link.

https://…/mcp

  1. 1

Switch on Developer Mode in ChatGPT's settings. Without it, the option to add a custom MCP does not exist at all.

  2. 2

Open the section for your own connections. It is currently called Plugins.

  3. 3

Choose the option to add one of your own.

  4. 4

Paste your connector address. It is on the DiscordMCP page you came here from.

  5. 5

Follow the sign-in that appears and enter your passphrase once. That is the only place it belongs.

  6. 6

Back in ChatGPT, check whether the plugin shows as connected.

  7. 7

If the tool list is empty, press Refresh on it once. This is the step nearly everybody needs and nearly nobody guesses.

  8. 8

Start a new conversation. One that is already running may not pick up new tools.

How you know it worked

The connector shows as connected, with a list of tools under it.
There is nothing left to do in Discord. Whatever is still missing is missing here.

The safest test there is: it only looks, and changes nothing.

Show me an overview of my Discord server.

If something will not work

There is no option to add anything. Then Developer Mode is still off, or your plan does not have it. OpenAI's documentation reserves custom MCPs that write anything for Business and Enterprise plans. We tested it on a Plus plan and it worked.

The tool list is empty. Press Refresh once. It changes nothing about your setup and nothing on your Discord server.

Still empty after that. Start a new conversation. Claude and ChatGPT may use the same address at the same time, by the way.
